Grass fire south of North Platte

The North Platte Fire Department and other rural departments responded to a grass fire several miles south of North Platte on Tuesday.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The North Platte Fire Department and other rural departments responded to a grass fire several miles south of North Platte on Tuesday.

The North Platte Fire Department reports that the fire was initially reported on Highway 83 and Watt Road. The fire primarily impacted agricultural land, however, there was a concern about flames impacting several houses. Fire crews took a proactive approach by placing fire engines in front of each individual home to prevent further disaster.

Additionally, firefighters were able to successfully attack the fire before it approached Brown Road, a bit north of where the fire was initially reported. As of 5 p.m., the North Platte Fire Department reported the fire was still active but had been contained.

The North Platte Fire Department was assisted by fire crews from Wellfleet, Maywood, Curtis, Maxwell, Brady, Hershey, Sutherland, Stapleton, Wallace and a crew from North Platte Regional Airport.
