LINCOLN, Neb - Nebraska is once again a blue state, as Creighton avenged last years upset loss in Omaha with an 89-60 win over the Huskers in Lincoln.

The defeat is the worst Nebraska's taken to the Jays since 1932. It’s also the first loss of the season for the Huskers, largely due in part to the play of  Baylor Scheierman, securing a double-double, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

The Aurora, NE. native said the performance was special, in the in state rivalry.

“It means a lot, obviously, in this game to have a decent performance,” Scheierman said. “But also credit to my teammates for finding me, most of those shots came within the rhythm of the offense and it was a good win for us.”

But Scheierman’s six makes from deep weren’t the only issue for the Huskers. Perhaps the biggest was Nebraska’s 22 misses from three. The Huskers shot just 2-of-22 from long range, something head coach Fred Hoiberg say you just can’t do against s team like the Jays.

“When you do that against a team like this, it’s going to get ugly,” Hoiberg said. “It was not a very good night for us with the ball going in the basket, but a lot of that has to do with them, and their personel, and they made it very difficult on us today.”

The loss is the first of the year for the Huskers and it comes in the form of a blowout. As a senior leader, Rink Mast knows better than anyone else that the Huskers need to have a short memory, with a pair of Big Ten contests dead ahead.

“This was a big one, so we’re soaking it in and making sure we remember this feeling, but then again, we’re playing on Wednesday so you can’t stay in this feeling for too long,” Mast said. “Soak it in. Remember it. Let it motivate you, but we got to move on.”

Nebraska falls to 7-1 with the loss and is off until Wednesday when they visit Minnesota. They then welcome Michigan State to Lincoln next Sunday. Creighton improves to 7-1, hosting Central Michigan on Saturday.
