VALENTINE, Neb. - A gun, shooting supplies, and sporting good store in Valentine has changed ownership.

Ron Wells is the new owner of The Gun Cabinet.

Previous owner, Perry Shaul, had been in charge of the business for 40 years. Wells said that customers won’t notice much of a difference.

“My plan is to run it exactly like Perry has,” Wells said. "He had a successful business. The system is not broken, so I’m not going to try to fix it."

This is Wells’ first business after managing several ranches throughout the area.

“Honestly, I hurt my leg, and it didn’t heal quite right,” Wells said. "My doctor told me that I had to do something else for a living. The store was for sale, and it sounded like fun."

Wells feels it’s important for the community to have a local gun store, so people’s money stays in the area.

“We also draw customers from North Platte, Kearney, and areas in South Dakota,” Wells said.
