Shots fired during burglary in Valentine

In the early hours of July 15, the Valentine Police Department and Cherry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary happening in the 100 block of North Thatcher Street.

VALENTINE, Neb. -- In the early hours of July 15, the Valentine Police Department and Cherry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary happening in the 100 block of North Thatcher Street. Police were told that the victim had fired shots during the burglary.

Upon arrival, officers found evidence indicating that the suspect was injured and had fled the scene. A witness told officers that the suspect was hurt by a laceration to the hand, not a gunshot wound.

Police have identified the suspect, but he has not been arrested.

The investigation is ongoing, but Valentine Police say there are no current threats to the public.
