LINCOLN, NEB. - On Saturday, Husker nation will get a first look at the 2024 Husker Football team inside Memorial Stadium, during an open practice.

The group putting on the practice is none other than Nebraska’s Name, Image, and Likeness collective, The 1890 Initiative.

1890 CEO Carson Schott explains why the event is important to fans and the athletes, but also the future of Husker Athletics.

“It really is a fundraiser,” Schott said. “All the proceeds go back to 1890… I think when you look across college football right now, there’s no place offering this type of opportunity.”

The event, tabbed “Big Red Preview”, is set to begin at 6:30 Saturday, with doors opening at 6:00. Prior to the event, a number of speakers, including 1890 President Matt Davison.

Entry is $25, which Schott says goes to funding the future of Nebraska’s student athletes.

“This event is not just football, but for the greatest needs across Husker Athletics,” Schott said. “We all want to win. We all want a successful season. This is how the landscape has changed and how we do it is providing these opportunities where fans can help and give back.”

Schott says Big Red Preview is also a chance for 1890 to inform on what they do and why it’s important, to those who may not be familiar.

“There may be fans who have hesitation contributing, but this is a way to contribute and also get a little bit more information on how this benefits student athletes.”
