ST. FRANCIS, S.D. - A 39-year-old St. Francis man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender. George Allen Scott, who was convicted of Abusive Sexual Contact in 2012, is required by law to register as a sex offender and update his registration within three business days of moving or changing employment.

In December 2023, Scott complied with the law when he moved from St. Francis to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and updated his sex offender registration. However, after relocating from his Sioux Falls residence, Scott failed to update his registration, leading to his arrest in St. Francis on Jan. 26, 2024.

In addition to his prison sentence, Scott was sentenced to five years of supervised release and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
