Power Dam Fire near White River 20% contained

The wildfire, which started on Thursday, has scorched more than 15,320 acres of land.

WHITE RIVER, S.D. - Firefighters are making progress in battling the large Power Dam Fire near White River, South Dakota, which is now 20% contained, according to the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). The wildfire, which started on Thursday, has scorched more than 15,320 acres of land.

Diane Mann-Klager, a BIA spokesperson, reported that one minor structure is damaged.

“Firefighters are still working. The fire does have some creeping going on, burning in fuel pockets,” Mann-Klager said.

As of Sunday night, more than 100 firefighting personnel remain on the scene. Residents who were evacuated earlier have been allowed to return to their homes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
