Wind farm controversy: Cherry County commissioners to hold special meeting
With just days left before a conditional use permit could expire for a planned wind farm, the Cherry County Board of Commissioners is holding a special meeting.
VALENTINE, Neb. - With just days left before a conditional use permit could expire for a planned wind farm, the Cherry County Board of Commissioners is holding a special meeting. During the meeting, which is scheduled for Oct. 15 at 2:00 p.m., commissioners could approve requirements of a zoning resolution presented by BSH Kilgore.
As previously reported by News Channel Nebraska, BSH Kilgore plans to build a wind farm near Kilgore. However, opponents argue that the project’s conditional use permit, issued in 2019, is about to expire without construction having started.
According to county regulations, permits cannot exceed a total of five years, meaning any extension would be a violation. However, County Attorney Eric Scott suggested that litigation involving the company may have paused the permit's timeline, potentially allowing for an extension.
