VALENTINE, Neb. - Tanya Storer will represent District 43 in the Nebraska legislature. According to the Nebraska Secretary of State, Storer captured more than 60% of the vote, while her opponent Tony Tangwall received nearly 40%.

Storer will replace Tom Brewer, who is term limited.

News Channel Nebraska previously spoke with Storer about her goals if elected. She said her top priority will be lowering local property taxes.

“I still firmly believe that our school funding formula is the key to bringing property tax relief back to especially our rural districts, which is pretty much all of what the 43rd District is. As that formula has changed, our districts have lost state aid funding almost every year. If we could just get back the amount of state aid funding we were getting 12 to 15 years ago, we could see significant property tax relief for local taxpayers,” Storer said.

Storer also emphasized her commitment to addressing social issues. She expressed support for legislation that would restrict participation in school sports based on biological sex.

"We're living in a new world with some issues that I never dreamed we'd ever talk about quite honestly with gender identity and whether boys should be allowed to play girl's sports," said Storer. "I'm very straight forward. You were born biologically a male or female, and that determines the sports you play in and the bathrooms you use."
