Pine Ridge man sentenced for stabbing, seriously injuring brother

A 31-year-old Pine Ridge man has been sentenced to less than two years in prison for stabbing and seriously injuring his brother.

PINE RIDGE, S.D. - A 31-year-old Pine Ridge man has been sentenced to less than two years in prison for stabbing and seriously injuring his brother. Jadan Poor Bear was convicted of Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

The incident occurred during an argument in March, when Poor Bear stabbed his brother in the upper chest and shoulder with a knife. The victim suffered severe injuries, including a pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and intra-abdominal bleeding. He was airlifted to a hospital in Rapid City, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Poor Bear’s sentence of one year and eight months will be served consecutively with a separate conviction for another assault on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
