Valentine City crews making progress on electrical outage

While the exact cause of the outage has not yet been identified, crews have made progress in restoring electricity.

4:00 p.m. Monday Update: Electricity has been restored in Valentine. City Manager Shane Siewert said that a transformer failure caused the outage.

 

VALENTINE, Neb. - City crews in Valentine are making progress in addressing an electrical outage affecting the east side of town.

According to City Manager Shane Siewert, the outage began impacting residents and businesses on the east side of Main Street, from 2nd Street north, late Monday morning.

“Our crews first started noticing low voltages in the area. Then the first calls started coming in around 10:30,” said Siewert.

While the exact cause of the outage has not yet been identified, crews have made progress in restoring electricity. By 1:00 p.m., the number of affected buildings had been reduced from 76 at the peak to approximately 48 still without service.

Efforts to fully restore power are ongoing as crews continue to investigate and address the issue.
