VALENTINE, Neb. - Cherry County has a new clerk. On Tuesday, the Board of Commissioners unanimously appointed Samantha Leonard to the position, following the resignation of Brittny Longcor earlier this year.

Longcor held the position for six years and had been in the office for nine. Leonard has worked in the clerk office for 2.5 years and had been filling in since Longcor’s departure. During the commission meeting, all three commissioners thanked her for being willing to fill the position.

“We’ve been very happy with you. Thanks for stepping up,” said Commissioner Mike McConaughey.

Leonard will fill out the remainder of Longcor’s term, which ends in 2026.

“I’m excited for the transition and being able to serve the county,” Leonard told News Channel Nebraska.
