OGLALA, S.D. - A 29-year-old Oglala, South Dakota man has been sentenced to five years in prison following the death of his infant son in a car crash. Sheldon Flute was indicted for Involuntary Manslaughter and Felony Child Abuse and Neglect in Nov. 2023.
The charges stem from Flute driving intoxicated with his 25-day-old infant son in the car in Aug. 2023. Flute rolled the car near Loneman, South Dakota, injuring the baby, who was not properly strapped in a car seat.
Flute then fled the scene with the baby and was later located by law enforcement at a home in Red Shirt, South Dakota. The boy died from the injuries sustained in the crash.
