WEWELA, S.D. - A 16-year-old boy was found dead from apparent exposure to freezing temperatures in Tripp County, South Dakota, according to the sheriff’s office. Sheriff Shawn Pettit tells News Channel Nebraska that they received a call around noon Sunday about an abandoned vehicle found in the yard of a home just north of the South Dakota-Nebraska border along Highway 183.

Authorities say the vehicle, which the teen had been driving, was stuck in deep tire ruts and brush. Family members discovered the boy’s body approximately 150 yards away.
