GORDON, Neb. - A Gordon woman who stole from both the Rushville Housing Authority and the Sheridan County American Legion baseball program has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years of probation.

Krystal Freeseman reached a plea agreement in which she pleaded guilty to two felony theft by deception charges, while four other charges were dropped. She was sentenced to 90 days in jail on both counts, but they will be served concurrently.

As the former executive director of the Rushville Housing Authority, Freeseman was investigated for embezzling tens of thousands of dollars. The Nebraska State Auditor’s Office determined that she had stolen $31,016.52 from the Housing Authority. In Feb. 2024, Freeseman reimbursed the authority $13,179.26.

In addition to the Housing Authority theft, the Sheridan County Legion Baseball Program reported that Freeseman stole at least $20,000 from the organization.

As part of her plea agreement, Freeseman has agreed to repay all the stolen funds. She has already reimbursed a significant portion but still owes $8,365.45 to the Housing Authority and $1,324.93 to the baseball program.
