PINE RIDGE, S.D. – A 26-year-old Oglala woman has been sentenced to five years and ten months in federal prison for the voluntary manslaughter of her partner.

Alexis Wounded stabbed Roger Big Crow once in the back on April 21, 2024, near Pine Ridge after an argument turned violent. Big Crow did not survive the wound.

At the time of the stabbing, Wounded was highly intoxicated and initially told the FBI that Big Crow had fallen backward onto the knife. She later admitted to stabbing him intentionally in her kitchen, though she claimed she did not mean to kill him.

A federal grand jury indicted Wounded in July 2024. She pleaded guilty in December.
