Head volleyball coach Fatima Balza has seven different camps set up this year and they are a little different from past years.
The volleyball camp season begins June 19 and 20 when the Little Cougars Camp will be held for grades 3rd through 5th. Camp runs from 9 a.m. - 12 noon and 1-3 p.m. and bring your own lunch. The 2-day camp is $100 per participant.
The next camp is the Elite Camp with Coach Chris Green. Green helped WNCC win a national title in 2007 and the camp will be intense to lead attacking, serve receive, setting, defense, and blocking. This camp is open to high school grades 10th through 12th and costs $180 per camper and runs 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. (and also bring your own lunch).
The next two camps are team camps. The first team camp is a jayvee camp from June 26 and 27 and the camp will have instruction and playing. Each camper needs to be a part of a team. Cost is $45 per camper.
The varsity team camp will be the same format and will run June 28 and 29. The cost of the camp is $45 per player and you must be a part of a team.
The fifth and sixth camps are Middle School Camps for all skills. Both camps are designed to fine tune the volleyball skills of attacking, serving, serve receive, blocking, setting, and defense. Cost is $120 per camper for grades 6th through 9th.
These camps will be held July 2 and 3 for the first middle school camp and July 7 and 8 for the second middle school camp. These camps are for grades 6th through 9th and the cost for the 2-day camps is $120 per participant
The final camps are half-day clinics for serving, passing, setting, and attacking. There is a max of just 20 players in each session and costs $50 per session.
July 9 will have serving in the morning and passing and defense in the afternoon, while July 10 will have setting in the morning and hitting/blocking in the afternoon.
The camps will be conducted by coach Balza. Balza begins her second year as the WNCC head volleyball coach and Balza has plenty of volleyball background. Balza started her collegiate career at WNCC under Coach Chris Green, helping the Cougars to a NJCAA national title n 2007. She then played at Penn State where she won two national titles for the Nittany Lions. After Penn State, Balza came back to become an assistant coach with Giovana Melo and then spend time coaching and doing clinics in Europe before coming back to be WNCC’s head coach last year.
