SIDNEY -- Sidney will be celebrating Arbor Day Saturday with a presentation and tree give-away.

Sidney Parks Superintendent Chase Frerichs said earlier this year the Arbor Day celebration

The event will be held at the Shelter House in Legion Park with registration starting at 7 a.m. and the program at 8 a.m.

"The last Friday in April is always considered Arbor Day in Nebraska. We'll be having our annual Arbor Day celebration with the city tree giveaway on April 26 at the Legion Park Shelter House. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and the program will be starting at 8. There will be a special speaker who will discuss planting trees and where the best location for planting would be in relation to houses, buildings, and/or utilities," Frerichs said in March.

In the March 25 city council meeting, Frerichs said Sidney has been designated as a Tree City USA for 39 years. Frerichs said one of the requirements for receiving Tree City USA Recognition is having a proclamation read and signed by the mayor each year.
