Doane Football Coach Conversations: Waldorf Recap, 2025 Season Review
This week on the final episode of NCN's Doane Coach Conversations series for the 2025 college football season, Doane head football coach Jonathan Johnson recaps his team's victory over Waldorf in the season finale, highlights the four Doane players who were selected to the All-GPAC teams, and outlines what's up next for his team as they move into the offseason.
The Tigers closed out the 2025 campaign with a 27-17 win over Waldorf last Saturday afternoon, but they had to work hard for it. Doane put together a strong second half in all phases to rally for the victory, and the Tigers ended the 2025 season with a 2-8 record.
Four players earned spots on the 2025 All-GPAC postseason teams: senior linebacker Reece Zutavern was named First Team All-GPAC; senior wide receiver Andrew Waido was named Second Team All-GPAC; and both sophomore cornerback JaKarion Jackson and senior wide receiver John DeRiso were named Honorable Mention All-GPAC. Well-deserved honors for four players who were consistently among Doane's top performers throughout the fall.
With the season officially in the books for Doane, Coach Johnson, his staff, and his players will now shift their focus to the offseason and prepare for spring and summer in advance of the next fall season. Doane's coaches will attend next week's Nebraska high school football state championships as part of their ramped-up recruiting efforts. The team's spring game is scheduled for late April, and from there it won't be long until Doane football returns to the field for real next fall.
