WNCC falls to No. 15 CSI
CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s basketball team put three in double figures led by Isaiah St. Preux with 20 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Cougars fell 99-81 to No. 15 College of Southern Idaho Friday at the LCCC Classic.
The Cougars will wrap up the LCCC Classic with an 11 a.m. contest against Salt Lake Community College before returning home for a pair of games on Monday and Tuesday against Miles Community College and Eastern Wyoming College.
Friday’s contest was a battle in the first half. WNCC took a 13-8 lead early on a Isaiah St. Preux 3-pointer. CSI tied the game at 15, but WNCC held a 20-18 lead. That was when CSI went on a 11-2 run to lead 29-22. WNCC sliced the lead to 32-29 on another 3-pointer but ended up trailing at halftime 43-37.
CSI scored the first six points of the second half to lead 49-37. WNCC got to within nine a couple times, the last time at 55-46. It was a 58-48 game with about 14 minutes to play and that was when CSI went on a 17-0 run over the next four minutes to lead 75-48. St. Preux stopped the run with a bucket with 9:24 to play.
After that the two squads exchanged buckets. Late in the game, CSI was 93-66 when the Cougars went on a 12-2 run to make it 95-78.
WNCC shot 47 percent from the field and buried 12 3-pointers with St. Preux hitting four triples. The Cougars were just 7-of-13 from the free throw line.
CSI made 58 percent from the field and made just six 3-pointers. The Golden Eagles were 23-of 35 from the free throw line.
Unofficial scoring for WNCC saw St. Preux with 20 points followed by Amare Jackson and Xavier Kirkpatrick with 16 points each.
