Nebraska led 2-0 through five innings, but four unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings led No. 15 Louisville to a 4-2 win over the Huskers at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series on Friday afternoon at Globe Life Field.

Nebraska (3-2) scored two runs on eight hits and an error, while Louisville (3-2) totaled four runs, eight hits and an error.

Dylan Carey led the Huskers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run and an RBI. With three hits, Carey becomes the first Husker since at least 2000 to record two-plus hits in each of NU’s first five games of the season.

Will Jesske had a double, while Jett Buck, Joshua Overbeek, Cole Kitchens and Max Buettenback tallied one hit each.

Ty Horn pitched five strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Caleb Clark dropped to 1-1 on the year after giving up two unearned runs, while recording one out. Ryan Harrahill tossed the final 2.2 innings, surrendering a run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts.

After stranding five baserunners through the first two innings, the Husker offense came up with the timely hit in the top of the third to break the scoreless tie. Consecutive two-out singles from Overbeek and Carey had runners on first and second, before Kitchens ripped an 0-2 pitch back up the middle for an RBI single to give the Big Red a 1-0 lead.

Carey doubled the Huskers’ lead with a two-out solo homer over the wall in right field in the top of the fifth inning.

Louisville scored three runs behind three hits and an NU error in the bottom of the sixth to grab a 3-2 lead. The Cardinals began the inning with a double and a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. An errant throw on a comebacker to the mound that could have been a double play plated Louisville’s first run of the afternoon. An infield single loaded the bases for the Cardinals, before a pair of popouts sat down the next two batters.

A two-out, ground-rule double to right field scored a pair of runs to give Louisville its first lead of the day at 3-2 through six innings.

The Cardinals extended the lead to 4-2 with a two-out solo homer to right in the bottom of the seventh.

The Husker offense was retired in order in the top of the ninth to preserve Louisville’s 4-2 win over Nebraska on Friday.

Nebraska continues play at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, as the Huskers take on Kansas State tomorrow night at Globe Life Field. First pitch between the Big Red and Wildcats is set for 7 p.m.
