NDOT reminds public campaign signs not allowed on highway right-of-way
NDOT is reminding the public that campaign signs are not allowed along state highways or interstates. Signs placed in highway right-of-way areas will be removed by maintenance crews.
By News Channel NebraskaLINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Transportation is reminding the public that placing political campaign signs along state highways and interstates is illegal.
NDOT officials said state law prohibits the placement of any signs within highway right-of-way areas. This includes intersections, medians, entrance and exit ramps, sidewalks, ditches and the land bordering the roadway that is considered part of the right-of-way.
Transportation officials said maintenance crews will remove signs that are improperly placed within state highway right-of-way areas. The signs will be stored for a limited time at NDOT maintenance yards across the state, where owners may reclaim them.
NDOT also noted that additional rules governing political sign placement and size may be established by counties and municipalities. Officials encourage residents to review local regulations before placing signs, as violations of local ordinances could result in fines.
