GORDON, Neb. — A Nebraska radio station is celebrating its community and looking to the future.

The Twister hosted its Summer BBQ and Concert in the Park in Gordon on Saturday. The annual event draws in locals with a simple goal.

“It’s basically just an excuse to get together and listen to music, give away some prizes and break bread with people,” Operations Manager Mitch Gallant said.

The event is part of a three-month long promotion for the station involving countless sponsor giveaways.

Gallant says hosting the bbq and concert fits with The Twister’s mission.

“We want to be all about the community and every time we can get a chance to be communal, that’s what we want to do,” Gallant said.

Orion and Stacey Potter out of South Dakota delivered the music. The Twister bought the food and gave a donation to the Gordon Lion’s Club to have them prepare and serve it. Club President Jerry Hardin says it’s one of the highlights of the summer.

“I think it’s wonderful for our community," Hardin said. "I enjoy seeing the folks enjoying themselves, I enjoy the music that Orion and Stacey Potter put on. It’s just a very nice event.”

The Twister is now under new ownership after Jim and Deneen Lambley sold the business to Flood Communications, which also owns News Channel Nebraska. Gallant says the change in ownership will only add to the station’s presence in the community.

“With Flood Communication and News Channel Nebraska, I think we’ll have the resources to do even more of it," Gallant said. "We’re in a little bit of a transitional stage right now, but once we get everything in place, I think people will be really happy.”

Gordon will host its other major festival soon. The community will celebrate the Willow Tree Festival on September 9th and 10th.
