Gordon and Rushville airports awarded federal grants for upgrades

GORDON, Neb. - Two dozen airports in Nebraska will be making repairs, updates and additions after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded $18 million across the state.
Gordon's airport will receive $251,955 to install a runway visual guidance system, which provides visual guidance to pilots during the approach and landing. News Channel Nebraska previously reported on the need for such a system.
“Basically it tells the pilot you’re either too high or too low,” Gordon City Manager Glen Spaugh told NCN.
Spaugh said that the airport can literally be life-saving. Gordon has the only critical access hospital in Sheridan County, and it flies out around ten patients a month.
Rushville will also receive a federal grant, amounting to $365,573 to rehabilitate the apron, runway, taxilane and taxiway.
The largest grant in the state, $4,810,000, was awarded to Beatrice for the reconstruction of its apron and taxiway.
You can take a look at the full list of grants on the FAA website.
