ATV believed to have caused fire near Long Pine

Several fire departments, along with an airplane, worked together to extinguish a fire around four miles north-east of Line Pine on Wednesday.

LONG PINE, Neb. - Several fire departments, along with an airplane, worked together to extinguish a fire around four miles north-east of Line Pine on Wednesday. According to Ainsworth Fire Chief Brad Fiala, an ATV is believed to have caused the fire on Tuesday, which burned around 75 acres.

Long Pine, Springview, Ainsworth and Bassett firefighters all responded. The single-engine airtanker (SEAT) plane based in Chadron also dropped fire retardant four times.

“Everybody needs to be extra careful with these high winds and dry conditions,” Fiala said.

Several other fires have been reported throughout the Sandhills within the past week, including a couple of fires east of Valentine and another fire near Chadron.
