Cherry County GOP Board elects new chair, endorses Tangwall and Burdick

VALENTINE, Neb. - The Cherry County GOP has elected Jim Lambley as its new chair and endorsed Tony Tangwall for Nebraska’s 43rd District State Senate seat and Byron Burdick for Valentine School Board. This comes just days after all four board members resigned, though the situation took a twist.
As previously reported by News Channel Nebraska, all board members initially announced their resignations. However, three of those members had only verbally resigned, not in writing. Those three decided to remain on the board. The resignation of former Chair Cathy Morris was officially accepted during a meeting Sunday, as she had submitted her resignation via email to Cherry County GOP Central Committee members.
Morris had cited mounting pressure from Central Committee members to endorse Tangwall, stating that the board’s role should focus on party unity and registration, not endorsing one Republican over another. Lambley, who had previously resigned from the Central Committee in August due to "the drama," offered a different take. He argued that the committee simply followed proper procedure by requesting a vote, which was not allowed to take place.
According to the Cherry County GOP Constitution, the board may endorse and financially support a Republican candidate *if a request for endorsement * is made. Tangwall had asked to be endorsed, while Storer had not.
The Central Committee also elected committee officers, with Craig Miles becoming the new Chair, Louis Day Vice President and Joy Miles Secretary.
At its Sunday meeting, committee members also discussed potential amendments to the constitution and bylaws and set its next Central Committee meeting for 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 20, 2024 at the Sale Barn Cafe.
