VALENTINE, Neb. - True Value, a 75-year-old hardware store brand, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is selling its operations to Do it Best Corp. Despite the restructuring, the company announced it will continue supplying products to its 4,500 independently owned retailers throughout the bankruptcy process.

Those stores, aside from one company-owned store in Palatine, IL, are not part of the Chapter 11 proceedings and will remain open.

News Channel Nebraska spoke with the owner of the Valentine store who said that customers can expect around the same experience, although eventually the name and products may change slightly.

True Value is a staple in many small, Midwestern towns, including Valentine, Gordon and Wisner.

The Valentine store was previously known as Coast to Coast before that company merged with Cotter & Co. to form TruServ, which was later rebranded as True Value Company.
