VALENTINE, Neb. - Cherry County has a new assessor, with Judge James Orr swearing in Melissa Bancroft on Tuesday. Bancroft steps into the role following the resignation of former assessor Jackie Moreland.

“I think I’m most excited because it’s a brand new opportunity for me, and I’m excited to represent the citizens of Cherry County,” said Bancroft.

As News Channel Nebraska reported earlier this year, county commissioners voted to hire Bancroft as the assessor office manager, with the intention of appointing her as the official assessor if she passes her certification exam within 150 days. Bancroft successfully passed the exam on her first attempt.
