Two juveniles arrested after Pine Ridge shootings

PINE RIDGE, S.D. - Two juveniles have been arrested following reports of gunfire in the lower trailer courts in Pine Ridge on Saturday, March 29.
According to OST DPS Highway Safety, multiple people reported that their homes may have been hit by gunfire. Investigators followed initial leads and identified two suspects. A separate tip then led officers to a residence in the southeast housing area off U.S. Highway 18.
When officers arrived, OST DPS Highway Safety says two people were seen fleeing on foot. After a brief pursuit, both were arrested behind the Pine Ridge Vision Center. They were confirmed to be the previously identified suspects.
Both juveniles were arrested on tribal charges, though their names are being withheld due to their age. Authorities believe the incident was a targeted act, and there’s no danger to the public.
The arrests come amid ongoing efforts to curb violence on the reservation. In December, the Oglala Sioux Tribe implemented a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew in response to rising homicides, drug-related crimes, and gun violence. Under the ordinance, any parent or guardian responsible for a minor violating curfew can face a Class 3 misdemeanor charge.
