Ugnius Jarusevicius Signs with Nebraska

Lincoln – Nebraska Men’s Basketball Coach Fred Hoiberg announced Monday that Central Michigan transfer Ugnius Jarusevicius (pronounced OOOG-niss YARE-rue-SHEHH-vih-CHUSS) has signed with the Nebraska men’s basketball program.

Jarusevicius, a 6-foot-10, 220-pound forward, hails from Alytus, Lithuania and comes to Lincoln after earning first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors at Central Michigan in 2024-25.

“Ugnius brings versatility to our frontcourt, as he can score inside and at 6-foot-10 is very comfortable stepping out to 3-point range.” Hoiberg said. “He is a good rebounder who averaged more than two offensive rebounds per game last year and uses his size and length to create scoring angles around the basket. Ugnius’ skill set fits well with our five-out system, and we are pleased to add someone of his size and ability to space the floor.”

In 2024-25, Jarusevicius led the Chippewas in many offensive categories, including scoring (16.2 ppg), rebounding (7.3 rpg) and field goal percentage (.537) while averaging 26.7 minutes per game. He ranked in the top 10 of the MAC in scoring (fifth), rebounding (third) and field goal percentage (eighth) while recording a conference-high eight double-doubles. Jarusevicius showed his versatility, shooting 31 percent from 3-point range, while also shooting 71 percent from the foul line on 171 free throw attempts.  He reached double figures 23 times, including eight games with at least 20 points. His season was highlighted by a 32-point, 10-rebound effort against both Akron and Kent State. He also had 17 points against Minnesota and 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds against Marquette. He closed the season with 11 straight double-figure scoring games, including both 30-point games and three other 20-point performances.

He began his college career at Cal State Bakersfield, spending his first two seasons with the Roadrunner program. He averaged 5.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game, highlighted by a 16-point effort against South Dakota, while going 8-of-12 from the field. He played in 15 games as a freshman before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in mid-January. In the two games prior to his ankle injury, he had set back-to-back season highs including 16 points and seven boards against UC San Diego.

He was a member of the Lithuanian National Team youth system for four years, helping Lithuania to a runner-up finish at the FIBA Under-20 European Championship in 2022. He averaged 5.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 block per game as Lithuania fell to Spain in the title game. He also played for Lithuania at the Under-18 FIBA European Challengers in 2019, the Under-16 European Championship in 2016, and the Under-16 European Championship in 2019.

Huskers Bolster Backcourt with Hailey Weaver

Nebraska bolstered its 2025-26 backcourt with an experienced Big Ten guard when Husker women's basketball coach Amy Williams announced the signing of Hailey Weaver on Monday, April 14.

Weaver, who spent three seasons on the court at Northwestern from 2021-22 through 2023-24 before sitting out the 2024-25 season, will be a senior for Nebraska in 2025-26.

"We are thrilled that Hailey will be finishing her career at Nebraska," Williams said. "Her versatility on the offensive side of the ball makes her a great fit with our team and our style of play. She has three years of experience guarding in the Big Ten Conference, and we are excited for what she brings to us on that side of the ball as well."

The 5-11 guard from Solon, Ohio, played in 62 games with 14 starts over her first years with the Wildcats. As a junior in 2023-24, Weaver averaged 7.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists over 28 games with the first 14 starts of her career. During the stretch, Weaver went 16-for-30 (.520) from three-point range, including 3-for-5 from long range on her way to 11 points against Notre Dame (Nov. 15, 2023).
