VALENTINE, Neb. - An upcoming event at a Valentine bar is raising concerns among some residents. The Skylite Bar plans to host Shades of HUNKS, a touring male revue show, on May 23.

“I think it’s offensive. I thought Valentine was family-friendly,” said Margaret Figert, one of several community members who voiced concerns at Thursday night’s city council meeting.

Some residents worry the event may involve nudity, which would violate city zoning laws. According to the show’s website, Shades of HUNKS calls itself the world’s best touring all-male revue.

During the meeting, Mayor Kyle Arganbright and City Manager Shane Siewert clarified that full nudity is not allowed under Valentine’s current zoning regulations.

“When I moved back to town, four establishments had it, but they all eventually closed and the city updated its zoning and made it not an allowable use in most of town,” said Arganbright.

Siewert added that if the bar were to allow full nudity, it could result in citations.

“Anybody who goes and sees violations needs to call the police,” said Siewert.

New City Clerk, Bobbi Johnson, who previously worked at the Valentine Police Department, said that the Nebraska State Patrol has previously cited dancers in town for not complying with regulations.
