SEWARD, Neb. – Chadron State College senior Nicquaine Henry set the school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.56 seconds while winning the race at the Concordia University Last Chance Meets in Seward on Friday.

The time, which is currently the 13th-fastest this season in Division II, has put Henry in good position to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Championships at Pueblo, Colorado on May 22-24, with the top 22 times in the nation making the national meet.

The former Chadron State 400 hurdle record of 52.39 seconds was set by Gavan Archibald in 2014, when he won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's gold medal. Henry's previous best was 52.69, when he placed fourth at the finals of RMAC Championships in Golden, Colorado, on April 27.

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Henry joined the Eagles this year. On Friday, he also anchored the Chadron State 4x400 relay team that placed second at the Concordia Meet with a time of 3:13.86, the second fastest in CSC history. The other runners were Chris Comier, Esosa Iyengunmwena and Ryan Clapper. Friends University of Kansas won the relay in 3:13.44.

Chadron State head coach Jake Gruver said the same Chadron State foursome will compete in the relay again Saturday at the Nebraska-Kearney Last Chance Meet.  with the primary goal of breaking the Eagles' school record of 3:12.16 that was set in 2014. Archibald ran the first leg of that relay, followed by Zerek Jones, Fred Culp and Phil Rivera.
