RAPID CITY, S.D. - A 32-year-old Rapid City man has been sentenced to just over ten years in federal prison after killing a man on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Vincent Boesem was convicted of voluntary manslaughter.

Between July 3 and July 4, 2022, Boesem had been drinking with his elderly uncle at his home on the reservation. While under the influence of alcohol and methamphetamine, Boesem became enraged and attacked the victim, striking him in the head, face, and body. Although Boesem called 911 to request medical help, the victim died from his injuries.

Federal prosecutors say that Boesem acted in the heat of passion, driven by an uncontrollable rage and extreme emotional disturbance.

A federal grand jury indicted Boesem in March 2023. He pleaded guilty on March 14, 2025.
