RAPID CITY, S.D. – Chadron State shot a blistering 70 percent from the field in the second half, Isaiah Randolph and Mack Keighran scored 22 points apiece, and Chadron State men's basketball earned a key rivalry win against South Dakota Mines, prevailing 88-79 in Rapid City on Thursday night.

The win, which came in Chadron State's fourth game in the past eight days, improves CSC's record to 5-15 overall and 3-9 in RMAC play. South Dakota Mines drops to 9-10 overall and 6-5 in the RMAC.

The Eagles, who led 36-33 at halftime, shot 56.9 percent from the floor for the game and 57.1 percent from three-point range. In the second half alone, the Eagles made 21 of 30 field goal attempts (70 percent) and 7 of 11 long-range shots (63.6 percent).

The Hardrockers were no slouches on offense either, shooting 48.4 percent from the field for the game and 62 percent in the second half themselves, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the Chadron State attack.

Chadron State had a three-headed monster of Randolph and Keighran with 22 each plus Jadon Cool with 18 points. All three were lethally efficient – Randolph shot 9-for-15 from the floor while Keighran was 8-for-12 and Cool was 7-for-13.

Keighran led the way from deep with four made three-pointers, with Cool adding three triples. Zach Smith and Blessing Adesipe had two three-pointers each. Randolph also had a game-high eight rebounds and a team-high five assists.

The game started slowly. Chadron State only made 3 of its first 11 field goal attempts and found itself trailing 14-9 after eight-and-a-half minutes of game time. The Hardrockers led 28-22 with five minutes to go in the first half, but CSC went on an 11-2 with a Randolph layup and threes by Luka Djurovic, Cool and Keighran to go up 33-30. The teams traded points before CSC went into the locker room up by three, 36-33.

In the second half, the Eagles started out on fire and scarcely slowed down. Chadron State made its first five field goal attempts and tacked on a pair of free throws for good measure, scoring 14 points in the half's first four minutes to lead 50-44.

The teams continued to trade shot after shot, answering one another's baskets with a make of their own. Chadron State maintained its lead throughout the second half but didn't lead by more than seven points until there were five minutes left in the game.

After Randolph hit a jumper, the Eagles forced a turnover and Randolph found Blessing Adesipe for a three as the Eagles built their largest lead of the night at 78-66 with 4:26 left.

Cool punctuated things with a dunk to put CSC back up by nine – 86-77 – with 29 seconds left, then the Eagles found Keighran on a fastbreak for a layup after an SDM miss for their final two points with 13 seconds remaining.

The Eagles outrebounded South Dakota Mines 30-24 and got 31 points from their bench compared to 15 for SDM. Jason Lee scored a game-high 27 points for South Dakota Mines on 22 field goal attempts.

Chadron State has a full seven days until its next game, when the Eagles hit the road to face Colorado Christian (8-11, 3-8 RMAC) and CSU Pueblo (13-6, 7-4 RMAC).

?Chadron State—Isaiah Randolph 22, Mack Keighran 22, Jadon Cool 18, Luka Djurovic 9, Zach Smith 8, Blessing Adesipe 7, Ethan Russell 2. Totals: 33-58 FG (12-21 3PT) 10-14 FT. 88 points, 30 rebounds, 17 assists, 10 turnovers.

?South Dakota Mines—Jason Lee 27, Gray Thompson 14, Fred Libby 13, Darren Wallace 10, Ryan Sweeney 9, Luke Baltz 4, Guido Wanschelbaum 2. Totals: 31-64 FG (12-29 3PT) 5-11 FT. 79 points, 24 rebounds, 18 assists, 8 turnovers.

Moser Scores Career High in Loss to Hardrockers

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Chadron State scored its third-highest point total of the season and freshman Ella Moser poured in a career-high 20 points, but South Dakota Mines made 13 three-pointers as the Hardrockers defeated the Eagles 76-59 on Thursday evening in Rapid City.

South Dakota Mines (7-12, 5-6 RMAC) shot 48 percent from the field (26-54, its second-best percentage of the season) and 46 percent from three-point range (13-28, its best percentage of the season) against the Eagles (1-15, 1-11 RMAC).

Moser became the third Eagle this season with a 20-point game, joining McKenzi Petersen (20 points against Adams State on 1/15) and Audrey Quintana (22 points against Westminster on 1/12).

The freshman from Cedar Rapids, Iowa made 7 of 14 shot attempts, including 4 of 8 three-pointers, and made both free throw attempts. Thursday marked Moser's fifth career double-figure scoring performance.

In another sign of growth for the Eagles, CSC committed just eight turnovers, 10 more than their previous season-low of 18. South Dakota Mines committed 10, marking just the second time this season that the Eagles won the turnover battle.

McKenzi Petersen joined Moser in double figures against the Hardrockers, scoring 11 points on 5 of 8 shooting with six rebounds. Dreanna Jackson and Audrey Quintana had eight points each, with Quintana corralling a team-high seven rebounds. Kenna Wagner led the team with five assists and three steals.

The Hardrockers jumped out to a 17-5 lead on the strength of making five of their first six three-point attempts. Moser answered with two threes of her own in the quarter, the second of which came with three seconds left and cut the deficit to 21-10.

The Eagles fought back, outscoring SDM 17-15 in the second period. Moser began the frame by hitting another jumper and a three to cut the lead down to six, having scored 13 of the team's 15 points at that point. A Quintana layup, which made it 22-19 with 4:38 to go in the first half, was the first basket by anyone not named Moser or Petersen for the Eagles.

That three-point margin would also be the closest Chadron State would get to the lead. The Hardrockers led by nine at halftime and opened the second half on a 12-3 run to open up an 18-point cushion. South Dakota Mines outscored CSC 23-14 in the third quarter, making the margin too steep for the Eagles despite outscoring the home team 18-17 in the final frame.

South Dakota Mines narrowly outrebounded the Eagles 32-31. The Hardrockers received a game-high 24 points from Addison Miranda.

After playing four games in eight days, Chadron State has a full week of rest before its next game on Thursday, February 5 against Colorado Christian.

Chadron State—Ella Moser 20, McKenzi Petersen 11, Audrey Quintana 8, Dreanna Jackson 8, Kenna Wagner 5, Alex Ridenour 3, Evelyn Old Coyote 2, Teryn Stokes 2. Totals: 21-60 FG (9-29 3PT) 8-12 FT. 59 points, 31 rebounds, 14 assists, 8 turnovers.

?South Dakota Mines—Addison Miranda 24, Morning Grace Spotted Bear 11, Savea Mansfield 11, Carolina Ruiz Molina 9, Megan Alexander 9, Emma Martin 5, Alexis Backhaus 4, Lauren Herman 3. Totals: 26-54 FG (13-28 3PT) 11-14 FT. 76 points, 32 rebounds, 20 assists, 10 turnovers.

New Coach
Skye Koehl (pronounced "kale") will begin her tenure as Chadron State's head softball coach this weekend with five games in Texas, her home state.

STORY: Skye Koehl Named CSC Head Softball Coach

Koehl joins CSC after two seasons as the head coach at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado. Her teams placed second and third in NJCAA Region 9 during her two seasons in charge. As a player, Koehl won a junior college national championship with Temple College (Tex.) before transferring to Division I Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for her final three seasons.

Koehl replaces Dr. Robert Stack, who coached the 2025 season on an interim basis after previously piloting the CSC softball program from 2008-2017. Assistant coach Kayla Campuzano, who has been on staff at CSC since 2019, remains with the program in that role, while former player Ashland Baca joins the staff as a graduate assistant.

Team Fast Facts
Chadron State softball finished 2025 with a 22-28 record, going 18-26 overall in the RMAC. The Eagles finished ninth in the 12-team RMAC standings, but were 8.5 games out of fourth place in the league while finishing 8.5 games ahead of 10th place.

Chadron State went 2-1 against Lone Star Conference teams last season, beating Sul Ross State and UT-Permian Basin while losing to Lubbock Christian.

The Eagles were picked to finish 11th in this year's RMAC Preseason Poll, based on a vote of the league's head coaches.

The Roster
Chadron State's 20-player roster includes eight returners and 12 newcomers. The Eagles will be replacing a lot of production from the 2025 season – four of the top five batting average leaders, four of the top five RBI leaders and the starting pitchers for 46 of CSC's 50 games last season do not return.

The most accomplished hitter on the roster is Aliyah Rothstein, an All-RMAC Honorable Mention selection in 2025 after hitting .345 with nine stolen bases and errorless defense in right field. But Rothstein sustained a knee injury late in the 2025 season, and her return date is still unknown.

Slugging catcher Sophia Brennan, who hit seven home runs last season, will likely return behind the plate alongside newcomer Tiffani Mein, a transfer from Colby CC. Catcher Madison Sebbo, who has played in just two games in three seasons due to knee injuries, has been cleared and has rejoined the team.

All four infield positions do not have a returning starter. Infield candidates could include a Division I transfer in sophomore Macie Selfors (who had 31 pinch-running appearances as a true freshman for Grand Canyon in 2025), a juco transfer from Yavapai College in Charley Pitrat (who hit .327 with 10 doubles and 23 RBI for the Roughriders) and freshman Brianna CordrayIsabella Crown and Payton Sullivan.

Brogan Allen, who slugged .493 with five home runs last season, spent time as the designated player last season but may also work into the infield.

The Eagles have familiar options in the outfield, as Katelynn Czerpak (46 games played, nine stolen bases), Elizabeth Thorngren (43 games played, .219 AVG, 10 RBI) and Elia DeLozier (4-4 stolen bases) all return along with Rothstein. A trio of freshmen – Coloradoans Lani Davis and Sydney Lowery and Wyoming native Izzy Thomas – will try to crack the lineup.

The pitching staff will rely heavily on Belle Akins, a sophomore from Elkhorn, Nebraska who threw 59 innings as a true freshman last year in three starts and 21 relief appearances. Akins tossed a no-hitter, just the second in CSC history, in her second collegiate start against New Mexico Highlands last season.

Behind Akins, the pitching options are freshmen. Seward, Nebraska's McKenna Sides and Commerce City, Colorado's Brynn Trujillo have five All-State and seven All-Conference selections between them in their high school careers. Trujillo could also play in the infield as well.

The Opponents
Chadron State will not have a soft landing, as three of its five upcoming opponents this weekend made the NCAA Tournament last season, including CSC's season-opening opponent.

Saint Martin's, a school in Lacey, Washington which competes in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) went 32-16 last season and qualified for the NCAA West Regional, where they went 0-2. The Saints have been picked second in this year's GNAC Preseason Poll and return Co-GNAC Player of the Year Heather Ebner, who slashed .439/.536/.672 last season with 67 RBI, which set a new conference record.

Chadron State's other four opponents all hail from the Lone Star Conference (LSC), which competes alongside the RMAC for spots in the NCAA's South Central Regional. The Eagles are set to face teams ranked 11th (Texas A&M International), ninth (St. Mary's), first (UT Tyler) and third (Angelo State) in the 17-team Lone Star preseason poll.

Texas A&M International went 24-31 last season. They return third baseman Kennedy Griego, who hit .402 with 16 doubles and a .462 on-base percentage.

St. Mary's finished 26-29 last season and also features a first-year head coach in Taylor Lira. The Rattlers return five starters, including former All-Conference selections Gabriela Banda and pitcher Emily Ayala.

UT Tyler was a dominant 62-5 last season and went 10-1 in postseason play on their way to their second straight national title, including a perfect 5-0 at the College World Series. The Patriots are undergoing a coaching change after the retirement of longtime coach Mike Reed, as assistant Jason Miller will be the 2026 interim coach. Taryn Barney leads the UT Tyler returners after earning D2CCA All-Region honors plus a spot on the CWS All-Championship Team.

Angelo State went 47-14 in 2025 and went 3-2 in the NCAA Tournament. The No. 13-ranked Rambelles are picked third in a tough LSC behind the top-ranked Patriots and No. 8 West Texas A&M. Angelo boasts the LSC Preseason Player of the Year in Tatiana Trotter, who hit .330 with 14 home runs, 47 RBI and a Gold Glove outfield selection last season.
