Fire nearly Halsey burns 36,000 acres

The wildfire near Halsey has now burned around 36,000 acres, according to Region 26 Emergency Management, and is currently contained within the Nebraska National Forest at Halsey.

HALSEY, Neb. - The wildfire near Halsey has now burned around 36,000 acres, according to Region 26 Emergency Management, and is currently contained within the Nebraska National Forest at Halsey.

As News Channel Nebraska reported yesterday, the fire moved through forest and grassland Thursday and began burning on private property. By Friday, firefighters had made progress and were able to contain the fire within the forest.

The Nebraska National Forest at Halsey is currently closed to visitors. Region 26 officials say they have not received any reports of building damage or injuries.
