One dead after possible hit and run, authorities say

One man is dead today due to a possible hit and run early Thursday morning, authorities say.

WHITE CLAY, Neb.- One man is dead due to a possible hit and run early Thursday morning, authorities say.

Around 1 a.m. on Thursday the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office said they found a man dead lying on the highway south of White Clay.

A news release said deputies were dispatched after a 911 call reporting multiple people walking on the highway.

Authorities believe the man was hit by a vehicle.

White Clay is a town of 10 on the South Dakota border immediately next to the Pine Ridge Reservation. 

This is an ongoing investigation; the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone with information about this accident contact them at (308)327-2161.

Anyone in the area of mile marker 74 on Highway 87 between 12:45 a.m. and 1:10 a.m. should also contact the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office or the Nebraska State Patrol.
