Landowner voices concerns about ‘horrors’ from hog confinement in Cherry County
VALENTINE, Neb. - During Tuesday’s Cherry County Board of Commissioners’ meeting, a landowner who lives near a new hog confinement west of Valentine voiced his concerns about the facility. Danielski Harvesting & Farming opened the confinement several months ago, despite much opposition from area landowners.
“Those horrors we were concerned about are now being visited,” said Ed Brown.
Brown said that the facility is bad enough, but the odor is overwhelming. He also mentioned that a road safety study was never completed.
“The quiet enjoyment of our homes has been ended,” said Brown. “We hope that what has happened to us will not be allowed to happen to anyone else.”
County commissioners voted down a conditional use permit for a different swine finishing facility. However, the applicant, TK Angus, is now in a legal battle with the County. That facility would be located east of Valentine with a capacity of 4,999 head of swine.
